Mexican scientists are developing a vaccine and a method for rapid diagnosis of gastric cancer, after the discovery of cancer proteins.

A group of Mexican Scientists from the Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP) has identified different proteins in gastric cancer that can be found in 75% and 62.5% of patients with gastric adenocarcinoma. This finding opens the way both to a method of rapid diagnosis and vaccine development against this cancer, for which scientists have already applied for a patent research, reported Notimex .

Scientists seek to create a vaccine from polyclonal antibodies developed to detect proteins. 21 antigens in those who are working can kill tumor cells, thereby facilitating operations or protecting patients' tumors, says the agency.

According to the agency, this type of cancer each year kills 15 Mexicans between 30 and 59 years per 100,000 inhabitants. In addition, according to the forecast of the World Health Organization (WHO), the mortality rate for this cause will have increased by 20% by 2020.
